How Long Should a Clipping Campaign Run?

Two to six weeks suits most campaigns. Why open-ended runs underperform and what a deadline does to clipper behaviour.

Two to six weeks is the working range, and two weeks is a better default than most people expect. The instinct is to leave a campaign open so clips keep arriving, and that instinct produces worse campaigns.

What a deadline actually does

It concentrates effort. A clipper deciding what to work on this week will pick the campaign that closes on Friday over the one with no end date, because the pool is finite and being early matters. An open campaign is always something to get to later.

  • Two weeks — urgent, gets attention, and long enough for clips to accumulate views.
  • Four to six weeks — comfortable for larger pools that need volume to spend down.
  • Three months — usually a mistake. Interest decays long before the pool does.
  • Open-ended — competes badly against every dated campaign on the board.

Why the window has to outlast the posting

A clip posted on the final day has no time to earn. Views accumulate over days and sometimes weeks, so a campaign that closes the moment posting stops pays for a fraction of what its clips eventually achieved. Either close entries earlier than the campaign, or accept that late clips earn little.

What happens at the close

Entries stop being accepted, remaining submissions are verified, and the pool is settled against what actually earned. Clips generally stay up — retention requirements usually outlast the campaign, since the creator paid for distribution that continues after the accounting stops.

Running them back to back

A repeating cycle of short campaigns outperforms one long one. Clippers who did well come back, the ones who learned your content clip better the second time, and each round tells you more about which moments travel. It also lets you adjust the rate between rounds rather than being locked into a figure you set before you knew anything.

Set a window and let clippers work to it.

Frequently asked

How long should a first clipping campaign be?

Two weeks. It creates enough urgency to attract entries, and it is long enough for clips to accumulate meaningful views before the accounting closes.

What happens to clips when a campaign ends?

They usually stay up — retention requirements typically outlast the campaign itself, since the creator paid for distribution that continues. Entries simply stop being accepted and the pool is settled.
